Vintage Stoneware Blacking Bottles

These vintage stoneware bottles used to contain black polish for cobblers, shoeshiners or even the fireplaces in grand houses. My collection was found in the excavation of an old rubbish pit at Ham House. I wonder which amazing rooms they have been in and the stories they could tell?
