Hi!

My wedding pictures on Brighton Promenade, taken by David Stuttard

My wedding day, 2005

Thanks so much for stopping by! As time goes on, I hope this will be an easy to navigate resource for advice, inspiration and tips to help you style, plan and pull off your dream event. But first, I’d thought I should spend a little time introducing myself, so you can get to know me a little better.

Just a warning that I’ve never written a blog before and was never one for writing stories or a diary, growing up. Instead, I loved reading but my passion was imagining all the ways I could bring the stories to life! I really should have thought about a career in costume or set design, but was fortunate enough to do well at school and so the logical progression was to go off to university and study…. medicine. Not an obvious choice for a Jane Austen, costume drama loving, romantic introvert, but I’m a naturally empathetic person who loved science, so it was kind of inevitable.

Family picture at the beach on a cold, windy day

Enjoying family time at West Wittering Beach, our favourite place to spend a chilled out weekend.

Fast forward twenty-something years, and I have loved being a doctor and many of my patients have been kind enough to tell me that I am actually rather good at it. The only problem is that I have suffered with a lifelong anxiety disorder, mainly triggered by the fear I could let someone down or harm them in some way. As you can imagine, medicine isn’t a profession where you can avoid these triggers, and so after my third episode of severe depression in ten years, I decided that Albert Einstein had got it right when he said, ‘ The definition of insanity is doing the same thing, over and over again, and expecting different results’. The rest is history, and I won’t bore you with it now.

40th Birthday Festival Party

Why vintage prop hire? Well that one is simple too; I rekindled my passion for bringing ideas to life and collecting old things. The latter one stems from growing up as an expat kid, without many roots and ties. When you’re always moving and never in one place long enough to create your own history, you start to long for it elsewhere in your life. Vintage things give me that somehow. They’re built to last, and come with great patina and wear that shows some of their story….not unlike people I suppose, well, at least the interesting ones!

If the last two years have taught us anything, it’s that being together really is one of the most important parts of life. Celebrations are special moments shared with those we love, creating memories and forging a sense of togetherness that can last a lifetime. Being together is always the most important thing about a celebration, but celebrating in style can help make it extra special. If you feel the same, then I think we’re going to get along just fine.
